Our Story

From left to right, Dave Duggan, Mary Duggan, and Jeremiah Duggan

Mary and I, along with our son Jeremiah, founded Altoona Tax over 15 years ago. We wanted to build a business that our family could grow into and to grow a family out of our business. We wanted to share the financial stability that we valued— and that made life a little easier when we were just starting out— with our community.

Today, ATS Iowa is just as committed to our relationships with our clients as we were back then. We want to get to know you, beyond tax time or initial meetings so that we can cater our services to your needs and lessen the stress that so often accompanies financial chores, like taxes.

We are continually working to stay up to date on the latest state and IRS guidelines, as well as streamlining our processes, and embracing new technology to meet your needs for a secure financial future.

We know what it takes to run a business. Living through the small business struggles ourselves continually inspires us to provide the best and most comprehensive services available. Let us help lighten your load by taking away the stress of accounting or filing your return so that you can focus on what you do best and know that you have a team of tax and accounting professionals supporting you.

The Team

Dave Duggan, Senior Managing Partner, ATS Tax Services and ATS Financial Services

Dave Duggan
Senior Managing Partner

Dave has over 40 years of experience in the accounting and financial services industry. He has held officer positions at two fortune 500 companies prior to purchasing ATS Tax service. Dave also brings expertise in farm tax and operations, small business tax and consulting, and law enforcement tax issues. In addition, Dave serves as a Registered Investment Advisor.

Dave purchased Altoona Tax Service over 15 years ago, with a desire to simplify the tax filing process and the burden of tax preparation. Dave’s son Jeremiah has been a part of the ATS family since day one.

Away from the office Dave enjoys spending time with Mary and his 7 grandchildren, fishing, hunting and working at his farm. Dave believes that family is the most important thing we have and to that end he works to make all of his clients and colleagues feel that they are a part of the ATS family.

Mary Duggan, Managing Partner, ATS Tax Services and ATS Accounting Services

Mary Duggan
Managing Partner

Mary began her career in the life insurance brokerage and underwriting industry 40 years ago. At that time she worked with sales and administration on underwriting substandard risk life insurance. She stayed in the marketing and wholesaling aspects of the financial service industry the remainder of her career before joining ATS Iowa.

The first face you may see when you visit us at ATS Iowa is Mary at the reception desk. She feels that everyone that walks through our doors is family and is treated as such. Mary answers the phones, sets appointments, settles tax return pick up and payment, accounts receivable and billing along with other numerous tasks to keep work flow on task and communication lines open.

Mary and husband Dave enjoy working together. Away from the office Mary enjoys spending time with Dave and their 7 grandchildren. She enjoys cooking, being outdoors, reading and listening to music.

Jeremiah Duggan, Managing Partner ATS Tax Services

Jeremiah Duggan

Jeremiah began his career with his dad, Dave, when the business was purchased and is a Managing Partner of ATS Iowa and its businesses. He is involved in all aspects of ATS Tax Service, and has a strong desire to see the firm continue through his generation.

Jeremiah attended Iowa State University with a focus on business and accounting.  In addition to tax and tax preparation, his expertise is technology and he leads all the firm’s research efforts, ensuring the latest software is integrated into the firm. Jeremiah brings over 15 years of experience to his many clients.

Jeremiah is married to Cassie and the father of two boys, Spencer and Emerson.  He enjoys teaching his boys about the outdoors, leading Scouts in the Ankeny area, and making sure his dad does not spoil them too much.
